Buy and sell with care

Marketplace safety

Most local trades are straightforward. A few deliberate checks make them much safer.

Before you meet

  • Keep arrangements in marketplace messages so there is a useful safety record.
  • Check the description, seller reputation and verification badges, but never treat a badge as a guarantee.
  • Be wary of pressure, prices far below market value, deposits for unseen items and requests to move immediately to another app.
  • Never share passwords, one-time codes, card details or remote access to your device.

Meet and inspect safely

  • Meet during daylight in a busy public place. Tell someone where you are going and consider taking another person.
  • Inspect and test the item before paying. For vehicles, confirm identity, registration, finance and ownership independently.
  • Use the private meeting-location feature. Do not publish a home address in a listing.
  • If something feels wrong, leave. In an emergency call 000.

Products and payments

Check recalls and mandatory safety standards, especially for children’s products, electrical goods, vehicle parts and protective equipment. BuySwapAndSell does not hold funds or provide escrow. Independently confirm any payment has cleared; screenshots and unexpected “upgrade your account” fees can be fake.

Report and block

Use Report listing for scams, prohibited goods, misleading content or unsafe products. From messages, you can report a private conversation and block the other member. Blocking prevents either person sending new messages. High-risk reports are prioritised for admin review.
